RH BILL; A DILEMMA OF THE NEW GENERATION

The object of the Reproductive Health (RH) Bill causes dilemma to the young generation. It bisects our belief that existence of human being paved the way to a happy community while on the other hand it distorts our perception that existence of upcoming generation became a burden to the community as perceived to be disadvantageous by the sponsors of the said bill.

As a devoted catholic and grown up with a Christian living with my family, I strongly believe that life is a gift from God and that God never allows His creation to suffer. It is a sad propaganda that young people who were born out of alleged irresponsible parenthood would aggravate economic problems of the society. In the premise of this negative idea, I beg to disagree and never believe that population can cause problem in our country.

In fact, "Reproductive Health (RH) Bill would curtail economic growth, citing the experience of countries with aging populations and shrinking work forces", as stated by Archbishop Jose Palma, the President of the Catholic Bishop Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) in the cover article of the Catholic Herald dated August 05-11, 2012 entitled “Too many children, a burden?”

I am also convinced the mere fact that the population is really an asset to a country who aspires to become economically stable and great. While it is true that population explosion can yield adverse effect to a country especially if these people are not working or struggling to make each family progressive and economically successful. In other words, people are the most potent human resources to build a country but in contrary if these people are lazy with negative attitude towards being responsible citizen of the country, then too many children in each family would now become a burden to economic growth.

RH Bill is not a solution to what is acclaimed as population is a national problem and a story deterrent to economic progress because based on the area of our country against the population as we can see from Luzon, Visayas and more so in Mindanao it is very evident that we are not undergoing high density of population or thick population and therefore, our government leaders should not take too much effort on population control. Instead, the government should focus more on plans and programs that would help the country surpass the test of time.

I further recommend that government leaders and private sectors should work hand in hand to establish good programs that would promote life and continue its goals to educate, to feed and keep the young people healthy because the children and the coming generation are the main players that boost our economy.

In conclusion, I stress my absolute opposition of legitimizing birth control and other contraceptives as contained in the Reproductive Health (RH) Bill. Responsible parenthood entails great responsibilities which require personal reflections and wisdom from our creator who is the author and the source of life.
